It's been a great pleasure and privilege to have hosted a wide range of exceptional Arts events for the people of Bewdley and beyond since the 1980s. There's been many fascinating & famous faces successfully gracing us with their presence over the many years of Bewdley Festival, and while this has always provided great entertainment for our audiences, behind the scenes there's always been the accompanying challenge of trying to balance the books.
More recently, this challenge has become particularly acute. There's increasing evidence that the financial pressures on the arts, and the many provincial arts festivals which are a key part of the UK's arts ecosystem, are mounting daily. By way of example, The Association of Independent Festivals recently reported that UK music festivals are currently failing at the rate of nearly 80 a year. Add to that the diminishing levels of arts funding and focus at school level, and it's easy to see why this is becoming such a pressing issue.
It's against this backdrop that Bewdley Festival is doing all it can to ensure its long heritage is maintained for many years to come. However, bringing such a diverse and high-quality arts programme to Bewdley presents a continuing challenge, not least as we endeavour to keep our tickets affordable in the face of ever-increasing costs of performers and venues. It is for this reason we appreciate so very much the support we receive from Bewdley Festival Supporters.
