Jan Ferguson, who had run Bewdley’s bookshop, and her daughter Hannah, who is a literary agent, joined Neville Farmer as co-organisers for the very first Book Week. Together they created a programme of 15 author events most of which took place in the exhibition space in the old Bewdley Library opposite St George’s Hall.
These events were preceded by a glittering literary lunch with PD James attended by over 100 people.
The finalé to the town’s first ever literary festival was a Black Country Poetry dinner at a packed Hop Pole Inn.
